How I got started with estate planning

My journey into Estate Planning began with dealing with health issues with my in-laws who both developed Alzheimer’s.

Upon visiting a solicitor who quoted a huge amount of money to sort out Powers of Attorney I decided to research doing it myself. Whilst it was a steep learning curve and took a lot of my time and due diligence I successfully completed and filed my family LPA’s.

This germinated the seed of an idea to set up in business to help and support others through this process; around the same time, I had an accident where I damaged my back with an x-ray revealing I had osteoarthritis.

The business I ran at the time was physically demanding and with this information I decided to start a new business that would in the future be better for my physical health and overall well-being.

Whilst conducting my research I came across the SWW (Society of Will Writers) and booked myself my first course.

I know from personal experience the importance of dealing with the problems that can come with old age; I also have seen how poorly and unprofessionally Powers of Attorney can be handled by solicitors and genuinely believe as a member of the SWW we give a far better service.

I am a people person first and foremost. I enjoy being with people, hearing their stories and learning from their experiences and that is why I love my career. I provide accurate up to date information helping and supporting clients to make decisions that will protect them, their families, property and valued possessions. We live in an uncertain world in which we do not and cannot know what is around the corner. However, if we know ”who we care about”, we can make reasonable provision for them. I love being in a profession where I can play some part in enabling my clients to, “do the right thing”, by those who they love and care for.
